1963-1964 Bell Housing 1963 – 1964 Pontiac full sized Bellhousing. Part# 9770091
Inspection plate Inspection plate for 1963 – 1964 full sized Pontiac bellhousing.
Inside View Inside view. Note starter mounts into bellhousing with two bolts. The unit is cast iron. Aluminum bellhousings were not used on 1964 Pontiacs other than the Tempsest-Lemans-GTO line.
Beware What You Believe Beware of morons that read poor quality books. Some idiot out there wrote a GTO book that says a 1964 GTO bellhousing is the same as big Pontiacs. This is not true. Above is a 64 GTO bellhousing GM Part #9773320. It has no provisions for a back bolt starter. All big car engines built for 1964 and older full sized Pontiacs were not drilled for an “up-bolt” starter and had to use the bellhousing to mount the starter. Thus the reason for a cast iron bellhousing. Imagine a starter bolted to this filmsy aluminum bellhousing. I got tricked by a fellow eBayer and now have one of these hanging in my shop to remind me that this was complete crap.
